Gary W. St. Onge

     Gary W. St. Onge, 58 of L'Anse, died on Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, in the Baraga County Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit following a lengthy illness. 
     Funeral services for St. Onge were held on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse. Pastor John Henry officiated and spring burial will be in L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Dorothy DesRochers Jackson

     Dorothy DesRochers Jackson, age 94 of Pine Grove, CA died in Sutter Creek, CA. on Dec. 23, 2004. 
     A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Volcano Catholic Church in Volcano, CA. There will be a spring burial and graveside service at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse, is assisitng the family with local arrangements. Toivo “Wally” Seppanen

     Toivo “Wally” Seppanen, age 86 of Michigamme, died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.
     A memorial service was held on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion with Pastor Carole Neitzel and Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery in Michigamme.
     Memorial considerations may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in memory of Toivo “Wally” Seppanen. Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Stella M. Byykkonen

     Stella M. Byykkonen, age 71, formerly of Baraga and longtime Ishpeming resident, died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Township, where she had been a resident for the past year and a half.
     Per Byykkonen’s request there were no services. Cremation will take place with inurnment at Northland Chapel Gardens. The Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Elma J. Visuri

     Elma J. Visuri, 95, of L’Anse, died on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit following a long illness. 
     Funeral services for Visuri will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Pastor John Henry will officiate and spring burial will take place in the Herman Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until time of service. Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse, has been entrusted with arrangements.

     Marcella S. “Marcy” Maki, 83, of L’Anse, died on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Bayside Village, L’Anse where she had been a resident for more than a year. 
     A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse, with Father Chacko, celebrant. Spring interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. The Eagles Aerie Auxiliary 2287 conducted a memorial service followed by a parish prayer. Viola Laura Elina Maki

     Viola Laura Elina Maki, 84, of Baraga, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 15, 2004, at Bayside Village in L’Anse.
     A funeral service took place on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Jacobson Funeral Home, L’Anse. Interment in the Pelkie Cemetery is scheduled for the spring.

John H. Schaefer

     John H. Schaefer, 60, of Houghton, died on Thursday morning, Dec. 9, 2004, at Portage Pointe of Portage Hospital in Hancock.
     A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Rev. Fr. John Martignon officiating. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Omega House, the Portage Pointe Garden Project, or to the St. Ignatius Restoration Project in the name of John H. Schaefer.

Helen Sylvia (Keranen) Hanson

     Helen Sylvia (Keranen) Hanson, 87, passed away on Dec. 18, 2004, in Austin, TX after a short illness. 
     Funeral services were held in Austin on Dec. 22, 2004, and burial will be in Clinton Township, MI on Dec. 27, 2004.

Marcella S. “Marcy” Maki

     Marcella S. “Marcy” Maki, 83, of L’Anse passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 at Bayside Village in L’Anse where she had been a resident for more than a year.
     A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 at 10 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L’Anse with Fr. Chacko officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 from 6 until 8 pm. at the Reid Funeral Servide and Chapel, L’Anse. A parish prayer service will be held Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the funeral chapel. A complete obituary will be announced in next week’s edition of the L’Anse Sentinel. Della E. Peyton

     Della E. Peyton, age 109 of L’Anse died on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 at Bayside Village in L’Anse. Peyton was born on April 18, 1895, in Indian Territory, OK, a daughter of the late Orlando and Margaret (McElroy) Simcox. She had been a resident of L’Anse since 1978 and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

     Margaret Soli, age 89, of Livonia, and formerly of L'Anse died on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Wood-haven Retirement Center in Livonia, MI.

Eileen M. O’Donnell

    Eileen M. O’Donnell of Iron Mountain, died on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
      Funeral services were held on Thursday, 9:30 a.m., am at the funeral home and 10 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga offered the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted O’Donnell, Joey Fortier, Don Dinnocenzo, A.J. Kent, Pat O’Donnell, and Jeff Olsen.

     Edith Mary Ellis died on Nov. 26, 2004 at age 73. She was a resident of Glendale, WI.

Roy W. Kinnunen

     Roy W. Kinnunen, 63, Wisconsin Rapids, WI died on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at his home.
     Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 3805 St. John's Road, in the town of Sigel. The Rev. Douglas Schalow and Deacon James Johnston will officiate, with burial held in the parish cemetery.
     Family and friends may pay their respects at Taylor Funeral Home, 2201 Chestnut St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 and from 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the church until the time of services. Kinnunen was cremated at his request. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established by his family.

     James C. Morin, 55, of Anchorage, AK., and formerly of Baraga, died suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage, AK. 
     Funeral services for Morin will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Alan B. Fluegge officiating. Interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, from noon until time of the service.      Gertrude Kathryn “Kay” Kujansuu, 87, of Baraga, died on Thursday, evening, Nov. 18, 2004, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
     Visitation was held on Monday at Mission United Lutheran Church, in Pelkie. A funeral service took place in the church with Rev. Tom Wickstrom officiating. Interment was in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.

     Sean Daniel Knox, age 18 of Florence, WI, died on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at St. Vincents Hospital, Green Bay, WI. 
     The viewing and funeral service for Sean will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kingsford, MI. The visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. to noon with the funeral service to follow.

     Bertha Moroni, 95, of Iron Mountain, died on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004.

     Fred J. Mikkola, age 84 of Michigamme, died on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Marquette General Hospital.

     Delores M. Hanan (Nee Budreau), age 74, died on Friday, Nov. 12, 2004.

Gary A. Chambers

     Gary A. Chambers, age 53, a lifelong resident of Torrance, CA, died on Oct. 25, 2004, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Compton, CA on Nov. 12, 1950. He is survived by his wife, Anita (Turunen) Chambers; two children, Justin and Jessica Chambers; sister, Susan Angle and brother, Thomas Chambers. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws also survive. 
     Memorial services were held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Torrance, CA, preceded by private interment at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.

     Patricia L. “Pat” Maki, 64, of Baraga, died on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at her residence.

     Martha (Kemppainen) (Bell) Flores, age 77, of Ionia, MI, died on Oct. 31, 2004, in Grand Rapids.

Sandra Anne Butler of Chicago, IL, formerly of East Lansing, MI, age 61, died in Chicago on Oct. 27, 2004.

     John A. "Moose" Asher, 81, of L’Anse, died on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, where he had been a resident for the past four years. 
     Funeral services for Asher were held on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Zeba Methodist Church with Pastor John Henry officiating. Interment took place in the Pinery Cemetery, L’Anse.      Kenneth F. “Duke” LaBerge, age 60, of L’Anse, died unexpectedly but peacefully at his home on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004.

     Malvie LeClaire, age 87, of Baraga, died on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Bayside Village in L’Anse.
     The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baraga. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday and from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Jacobson Funeral Home. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. and parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fr. Antony will officiate. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery.

     Father William J. Connor, 75, of Center Valley, PA and a native of L’Anse, died on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Sacred Heart Villa in Center Valley, PA.

     Toni Tikkanen died peacefully at her home near Calumet on Sept. 20, 2004, after eight years of living courageously and vibrantly with breast cancer.
      A Unitarian-Universalist memorial service celebrating Tikkanen’s life will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Houghton, on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 at 4 p.m. with Reverend Sidney Morris and Reverend Carol Hepokoski officiating.      Kannon is survived by one daughter, Kathy (Ed) Gentry of Reno, NV; two sisters, Cecilia Spayd of Sun City, AZ and Siiri Dobbins of Farmington Hills, Ml; and one brother, George Kahkonen of Madison Heights, MI.

     Stephen D. Condon, 88, former Houghton County Prosecuting Attorney and retired Judge of the 12th Judicial District, died at his home on Thursday, March 25, 2004.
     The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, March 29, 2004 at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. Wayne Marcotte officiating. Spring interment will be at Hancock’s Lakeside Cemetery. The O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock was in charge of the arrangements.

     Robert P. Horton of Casa-Grande, AZ, formerly of L’Anse, Lake Linden, and for the past five years, Kincheloe, died on Feb. 3, 2004. Horton was 63 years old.

     A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.

Lloyd Francis "Victor" Hugo

     Lloyd Francis "Victor" Hugo, age 61, of Huron, OH, died on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital in Norwalk, OH.
     A memorial service will be held in the spring. Burial will be in the Assinins Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.

Helen F. Sliger

     Helen F. Sliger, 73, of Covington, died on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse where she had been a patient for three days. 
     Funeral services for Sliger were held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Leon Linquist officiating. Interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery in the Spring. The Covington VFW Post 8945 Auxiliary conducted a memorial service. Homer D. Elmblad

     Homer D. Elmblad, 85, of Iowa City, IA. and summer resident of L’Anse died on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 in the loving arms of his daughter.

Dorothy M. (Adams) Christo

     Dorothy M. (Adams) Christo, 73, a former L’Anse resident, died on Dec. 26, 2003, following a 20 year struggle with Huntington’s Disease.
A funeral service was held Dec. 30, 2003, at McCurdy’s Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, IA. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Missouri Valley, IA.
